The disclosure was made by the Presidency yesterday by Special Adviser to the President (Information and Strategy) Bayo Onanuga, who noted that the list comprises 34 non-career ambassadors and 31 career diplomats assigned to different diplomatic missions.

The postings follow the confirmation of the ambassadors-designate by the Senate last December. Among the non-career appointees are former senators, political figures, and public personalities assigned to countries including Israel, South Africa, the United States, Germany, China, and the United Nations (UN).

President Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.

Among the high-profile non-career appointees, former Minister of Aviation Femi Fani-Kayode has been posted to Germany, while presidential aide Reno Omokri will serve in Mexico. Former Chief of Army Staff and minister, Lt. Gen. AbdulRahman Dambazau has been assigned to Beijing, China, while Senator Jimoh Ibrahim will serve as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations. Other notable postings include Senator Ita Enang to South Africa, former Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu to Spain, former Minister of Health Prof. Isaac Adewole to Canada, and Lateef Kayode Are to the United States.

Career diplomats have been posted to countries such as Egypt, India, Iran, Switzerland, and several African nations, maintaining Nigeria’s professional diplomatic representation abroad.

Onanuga said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already received agrément from the United Kingdom for High Commissioner-designate Aminu Ɗalhatu, while France has approved the posting of Ambassador Ayodele Oke.

The Senate confirmed all 65 nominees in December 2025 following their screening by the Committee on Foreign Affairs.

Nigeria maintains over 100 diplomatic missions worldwide, including embassies, high commissions, and consulates representing the country in bilateral and multilateral engagements.

The newly-appointed envoys are expected to assume their duties after completing the induction programme and receiving agreement from their respective host countries.
